A bit off the regular tourist trails are the beautiful and exciting islands of Nusa Tenggara. Located to the east of Bali, Nusa Tenggara is actually two distinct provinces; West Nusa Tenggara consisting of mainly Lombok and Sumbawa and East Nusa Tenggara made up mostly by Sumba, Flores and Timor Barat or West Timor.

The region is quite sparsely populated and due to a dry climate thick vegetation is just as rare. It is home, however to exotic wildlife and deep clean water which attract scuba divers, snokellers and some big fish to what some describe as the most fantastic variety of marine life anywhere on earth. For these visitors to East Nusa Tenggara, life on the land does not even come close to the beauty and fascination of that which lies under the waves.

There are several domestic airports spreads over East Nusa Tenggara, in Labuan Bajo, Ruteng, Ende, Maumere, Waingapu, Waikabukak, Kupang and Alor. Travel to this province will be much easier from Bali or Surabaya. Regular flights serve those airports. It is recommended to prepare far head if you want to join the adventure tours to the region.
Hotels, restaurants and other types of accommodations are available with minimum standard facilities. Do not expect star rating hotels or international restaurants in this province except if you travel to Kupang.
Airlines to Flores include Merpati Nusantara Airlines, Indonesia Air Transport, and Transnusa. While to Kupang include Garuda Indonesia, Merpati Nusantara Airlines, Transnusa, Indonesia Air Transport, and Mandala Airlines.
