Lombok is a small island located just to the east of Bali and is often visited as part of a trip to Bail or for an entire holiday. Lombok is slightly smaller than its sister Bali and although it is located so close by it is very different to Bali in many ways. First of all due to the positioning of the Wallace Line which parts Bali and Lombok as two different land masses, Lombok is a dryer island with completely different wildlife and is thought by many to be an even more beautiful place than Bali. With some incredible beaches and unreal highlands there is a lot to see on this wonderful island. Another differing element of the island is the Sasak culture which is a Muslim culture with completely different ceremonies to Bali and display a very interesting way of life. There are a number of options in terms of holiday destinations in Lombok and it is pretty easy to choose the right one for you. One of the best ways to experience the island of Lombok is embarking on one of the Lombok tours from Bali or from Lombok.

The most common mainland holiday destination is Senggigi which is a well developed beach resort area on the north of the west coast of Lombok offering beach villas and international resorts which are commonly better value than the Balinese equivalent and offer all of the facilities and luxury dinning of a similar standard to that of Nusa Dua Bali. If you are interesting in diving and snorkeling in some of the world’s best spots or interested in seriously easy going Small Island environments then head to the Gili Islands which are included in many of the Lombok tours and offer luxury and budget accommodation as well as a great nightlife of dinning and partying. If you are interested in surfing or exploring deserted white sand beaches and incredible scenery then try the resorts around the Kuta area, this in no way similar to Kuta Bali and offers modest accommodation with a some luxury accommodation as well as surfer and backpackers accommodation which seems to be ever improving in standard.

As well as the activities that have already been mentioned you can also do a variety of different water sports and another popular activity is trekking up the Rinjani volcano to see the incredible view which incorporates the coasts of Lombok and all of it’s scenery as well as parts of Bali from this incredible height. This is one of the most popular Lombok tours and for good reason. When on a Lombok tour there are a number of different options although most of them include traveling from Bali. You can also catch a fast boat to Senggigi or to Gili Trawangen taking around an hour from Sanur, Benoa or Padang Bai with transfers included or there is the slow boat which takes 4 hours to do the crossing not included land travel time which is good for those who enjoy that kind of experience and have the time to spare.
