INDONESIA ADVENTURE TOURISM:
If adrenalin and excitement are high on your list of holiday thrills then
Indonesia is certainly the place to get a fix. Surf chartering a seventy
foot yacht in search of the perfect wave off the north west coast of
Sumatra, tracking with rhinos and tigers in Java, shooting boiling rapids in
Sulawesi, discovering an underwater paradise in Maluku or jumping
off a hundred and twenty foot tower with a bungee cord in
Bali.
They are available and all part of a rapidly developing Indonesia adventure
and eco tourism business that looks set to be the biggest thing.
The Indonesian government is actively encouraging the private sector to get more
and more involved in the Indonesia adventure tourism. Small enterprises
with direct access to a wealth of local knowledge are beginning to open up the
interiors of what used to be out of the way places.
Surfers have been coming to Indonesia to the pristine white beaches from
all over the world for years and have until recently managed to keep their
secrets hidden from the mass tourist area.
White water rafting is another prime example of how to integrate a thriving
business with local communities and helping to conserve the very environment
that makes it so precious in the first place. Bali and West Java
are the most popular places to go for well organized trips but there are also
more remote spots in Indonesia such as Sulawesi, North Sumatra
and Irian Jaya which are little more difficult to organize.
Diving and snorkeling are amongst the easiest way to venture into the tropical
unknown and exploring the beauty of underwater sea gardens is an unforgettable
experience.
