The island of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara in particular is one of the best location in the world for its variety of local and sea creatures with crystal clear waters allowing visibility of up to thirty meters. A good thing especially when viewing white-tip sharks in the area. Divers may want to be close but stay far enough away for comfort. A little less threatening crevices and giant groupers, parrot fish, tuna, jelly fish and turtles that keep divers company along with large schools of smaller fish. The Flores coral beds come in every conceivable colour and shape.
Huge vermilion barrel spongers and delicate pastel coloured seas fans gather with powder blue coral trees and magenta coloured organ pipes. A diver dream, the coral gardens of Flores are off the island northern coast.
Tourism in Flores has not been seriously developed comparing to other Indonesia travel destination. The most favorite travel destination in the island of Flores include Labuan Bajo and Komodo, Kelimutu three color lakes in Ende, and the underwater world in Maumere.
How to get to Flores
The island of Flores can be accessed by public ferries from Sape Harbour in the eastern part of Sumbawa Island. Regular flights are linked from Denpasar, Bali and some from Kupang.
