Semarang is located on the north coast of Java in Indonesia and is the capital city of central Java. It is easily reached from any of the major and minor Indonesian airports and offers a combination of modern city life and relaxed cultural and physically beautiful landscapes just out of town. Semarang is home to around 1.5 million people and is the fifth largest city in Indonesia. Originally a fishing town and port to other islands in the Indonesian Archipelago, the Dutch colonised the city and used it as a major trading port. Interestingly there is a large Chinese contingent due to their part in the cities history meaning that you will find Chinese food and cultural attractions as well as the Cutch and Chinese architecture and the Javanese roots which have maintained strongly throughout history. Semarang is also well known for its educational prowess boasting several highly acclaimed universities and collages as well as private schools catering for the different ethnic groups including the mandarin schools.

There also a number of other tourist sights to be seen which include the temples and monuments that support the fascinating history of Semarang. There is also a building and thriving business district in Semarang which is located close to the administrative centre of the city as well as the shopping and dining areas which are also of a very high standard offering a number of different types of cuisine from around Asia and the rest of the world.
